You Are What You Eat

Tell me what you eat, and I’ll tell you who you are!

The way we eat plays the primary role in determining how healthy we are, and therefore, we should be very careful about the type of food we consume.

For instance, a diet rich in carbohydrates and unhealthy fat is quite damaging to the human body, whereas a balanced diet with sufficient amounts of fiber, protein, and polyunsaturated fatty acids will significantly improve the health of several organs, including the cardiovascular system, liver, and the gastrointestinal system.

Here are a few tips to adopt healthier eating habits:

Calculate your daily caloric intake

This step is important since it will determine whether you’re gaining weight or losing it. For instance, if you’re consuming 2500 calories per day while your body burns 2000, those 500 calories will accumulate with time, and you’ll constantly be gaining weight.

Keep tap of the right proportions for you

It is easy to not pay attention to how many carbs, fat, and protein you’re consuming, which can be problematic.

A healthy ratio would be:

  • Carbohydrates – 60-65%
  • Fat – 10-15%
  • Protein – 10-15%

Eat more fruits and vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are loaded in healthy nutrients, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory substances.

All these compounds will keep you healthy and prevent deadly diseases.

Include fiber into your diet

You’ve probably been the subject of an advertisement that claims their product has “magical” cleansing effects on the colon.

However, when it comes to cleansing the digestive tract, there is no superior substance to fiber! This naturally-occurring compound can readily detoxify your colon without the need to spend hundreds of dollars on products with questionable efficacy.

Stay away from artificial additives

Whenever you read the label of a product and you find that it contains refined sugar, artificial sweetener, or hydrogenated fat, stay away from that product.

This is because these substances can be very damaging to the body, and in some cases, carcinogenic (cause cancer).
