How To Lose Postpartum Weight | Hea Boosters

Finding out that I was going to be a mother was the biggest joy of my life. There were so many doubts and queries I had in mind that I was so afraid to ask anyone. From how to handle everything during the first few months to the physical changes that I may go through during my entire pregnancy.

If there's anything that I know is that achieving a healthy weight just after having your baby can not only be tough but also exhilarating. However, today I am here to help you new moms lose some weight efficiently. In any case, if you want to lose your baby weight and get fit again, here are a few tips.

Tips to lose postpartum weight:

Losing weight not only needs motivation but also proper nutrition, diet, and a lot of exercises.

1. Have an achievable goal:

The first rule of weight loss is keeping a goal that is logical, achievable, and doable. Setting goals that can not be achieved in a set time frame will only demoralize you.

So, start with small goals, say for example, in the first year after childbirth try and lose your baby weight. If you still feel that you have not achieved your ideal weight, then start by doing intensive workouts and increase your goal gradually.

2. Avoid crash or fad diets:

One thing that I swear by is never in my entire life has crash diets ever helped me lose weight, instead, the hunger caused by lack of nutrition only made me eat more. After delivery, your body requires more sustenance to heal if you are breastfeeding, then you need more calories than what is generally recommended.

A calorie-deficient diet would not be providing significant supplements and chances are you will be feeling tired, which is something you do not want to be doing when you are taking care of your baby, and especially when you're probably sleepless.

3. Breastfeed as much as possible:

Breastfeeding your child during the first initial half-year of their life (or longer) has many advantages for both you and your child. Breastmilk contains essential nutrients that are necessary for your baby’s development. It helps in improving your baby’s resistance to diseases and illness, develops antibodies, lowers the chances of asthma, type 1 diabetes, respiratory illness, gastrointestinal diseases, and more. As for mothers, breastfeeding lowers the chances of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, breast, and ovarian cancer.

4. Manage your calories:

Keeping a count of calories isn't for everybody. Yet, in case you're trying to lose weight, then there are several apps that help you do so. Choose an app that can help you count your calories by entering the type of food you had.

5. Eating fiber-rich food:

Consuming whole grains, fruits, and veggies is one of the best ways of losing your baby weight. Eating food varieties that are rich in fiber has been known to assist with weight reduction. Solvent fibrous food items help in decreasing calorie consumption, which results in weight loss. So, now is the time to add fiber-rich food to your shopping list.

Other tips include:
  • Include more proteins in your diet
  • Eat healthy snacks
  • Sugar and refined food is a no-no
  • Keep away from processed foods
  • Keep away from liquor
  • Move as much as possible
Some of the things that go without saying: do not resist challenges, drink plenty of fluids, get sufficient rest, do postnatal yoga asanas, look for help when necessary. Being a mom is not a simple task and sometimes asking for help can help us go a long way.

What is 'baby weight?'

Before we dive deeper into how to lose the baby weight, first, let’s understand what "baby weight" is? One of the first things we all need to understand is that it (baby weight) is not permanent. This is nature’s way of preparing our body to take care of our little one and protecting them with an extra layer of fats, tissue, and fluids.

During your pregnancy, your body generates more fat that is essential for the healthy development of your baby. These fats are utilized by your body during childbirth, breastfeeding, and taking care of yourself during the first year of your baby’s life.

Gaining and losing your baby weight after pregnancy is normal and nothing to get down on yourself about. Your body did something stunning. Be that as it may, losing weight is one of many reasons for your physical and mental wellbeing as well as preparing your body for future pregnancies if you wish so!
