I know you’re tired of hearing about the importance of nutrition and fitness to stay healthy. For this reason, I will provide you with 10 practical tips that you can start applying today, particularly in current pandemic times, to maintain a healthier lifestyle.
Limit eating out
Frequently eating out is an extremely damaging habit that may be slowly destroying your organs! These meals are loaded in artificial sweeteners, refined sugar, and hydrogenated fats, which all can put a toll on your body.
Also, don’t fall into the trap of false claims, such as “our food is healthy!” and “it’s trans-fat free”.
Cook your meals
Cooking your meals can be a daunting idea at first; however, once you engage in this activity, it will become very pleasurable, and you won’t have it any other way.
Take care of your micros
While we focus a lot on carb, protein and fat intake, micronutrients, i.e. vitamins & minerals, are key to several vital functions of our body, including immune function. Ensure that you get adequate micronutrients from your diet and supplements.
Moderation is key!
Regardless of the type of food you eat, you should always keep moderation in mind. Even the healthiest foods can hurt your body if consumed in large amounts
Read the label
When shopping, most people don’t bother to read the label of the products they buy. However, this is a big mistake! The label can tell you everything about the product. You’ll learn about its nutritional value, content in vitamins and minerals, the presence of synthetic substances (e.g. refined sugar, trans-fat), and more.
Thus, try to read the label every time you go shopping, and it will become second nature in no time.
Take a walk
Instead of taking your car to the grocery store, try to go for a walk. You would not believe how healthy it is to regularly walk.
Hit the gym every now and then
This is important to maintain your lean muscle mass, which tends to shrink with age and sedentary life. The gym should be part of your weekly workout routine.
Sleep disturbances seem to cause all sorts of medical conditions. Therefore, try to improve your sleep hygiene and get 7-8 hours every night.
Stress-calming activities, such as yoga, meditation, and music can all be a great choice if you have a stressful lifestyle or if you’re dealing with anxiety.
You don’t need me to tell you how destructive chronic stress is.
Put things into perspective
Learn to appreciate the smaller things in life, have fun with your family and loved ones, and when you get too overwhelmed, try to think of the bigger picture; it will make you feel a lot better.
